Visions of the West

Arts Council, Camera Club to hold western art exhibit

By Jim Richardson
Staff Writer

Members of the Garvin County Camera Club have finalized plans for the club’s upcoming Western Art Photography Show.

The photo exhibit, which is sponsored by the Pauls Valley Arts Council, will be held at the Santa Fe Depot in Pauls Valley and is set to run Monday, June 23 through Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

While they have held other photo shows in the past, Garvin County Camera Club member, Ginger Hewett, said this is their largest photo show since the inception of the camera club last year.

Visitors to the Western Art Photography Show can expect to see photos covering a wide variety of western subjects which, according to Hewett, were all inspired by the upcoming Pauls Valley Heritage Days Rodeo.

“We chose a western theme for this show in conjunction with the upcoming Heritage Days Rodeo and everything at the show is going to be western art. There won’t be anything that’s not related to the west in some way or another,” Hewett explained.

“We’ll have photographic artwork of horses, saddles, cowboys, boots, bulls, steers, cowboy hats, western scenes and landscapes.

“There will also be photographs of Indian-type art and all the items on display will be for sale.”

Hewett said, in order to display a photograph in next week’s show you must be a current member of the Garvin County Camera Club.

Club meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at Little Ben’s Italian Eatery in Pauls Valley and each meeting is open to the public.

For more information about joining the Garvin County Camera Club or the upcoming Western Art Photography Show call Ginger Hewett at 665-5041 or e-mail her at photosbyginger@hughes.net.
