Banks prepare for Y2K

1999 — 10 Years Ago



News: Is Y2K more hype than reality? Will everything shut down when the clock strikes midnight on Dec. 31, 1999? It’s anyone’s guess but the banks in Pauls Valley aren’t taking any chances. All three banks have been testing systems and updating software and hardware in preparation for the new millennium.

Entertainment: Royal Theatre – Now showing. “Big Daddy” starring Adam Sandler.

Sports: The Garvin-Murray OK Kids baseball teams received their district bids yesterday from the state OK Kids office and four Wynnewood teams and a team from Stratford and Pauls Valley will be vying for a district title this year and a berth to the state tournament. The Pauls Valley National Bank Padres prep team will be playing in Hinton on their quest for a title.



1984 — 25 Years Ago



News: Pauls Valley police cars have a new look according to Assistant Chief, Ray Johnson. The three white patrol cars and the sergeant’s unit are being decorated with blue vinyl tape stripes with city seals on the door and the word “police” on the front fenders and trunk lids.

Entertainment: Brewer’s Drive In – “Best Defense” starring Eddie Murphy and Dudley Moore.

Sports: auls Valley’s Williamson’s Furniture has drawn the Oklahoma City Northwest Optimists as their first opponent in the prep district tournament in Binger Tuesday night. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.



1959 — 50 Years Ago



News: The Garvin County Fair Board issued a call Monday for bids on construction of a new cattle shed as an addition to the county fair facilities in Wacker Park in Pauls Valley according to board president, A. J. Hinkle. The new shed will be 64 feet by 90 feet and of pole construction with a corrugated metal roof.

Entertainment: Corral Drive In – “Bell, Book and Candle” starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs.

Brewers’ Drive In – Trapped on the highway of terror! “Thunder Road” starring Robert Mitchum.

Sports: Ballard’s Dairy Queen and Sooner Gifts won two of the wildest games of the Pauls Valley Little League season Friday night. The Dairy Queen team defeated the Landrum team 23-19 and in another wild melee Sooner Gifts defeated Hester’s Cafe, 18-9.
