Bank robber now in custody

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — Authorities have got their man as the suspect who robbed a Pauls Valley bank last week is now in custody.

A federal criminal charge was filed Monday against 48-year-old Troy Brown.

Brown, who lives between Ada and Latta, was arrested in Pontotoc County late last week.

His arrest complaint and formal charge accuse him of being the man who robbed the First United Bank branch office on the west side of Pauls Valley back on Monday, June 9.

“We worked off of a tip and tracked him to Ada,” said PV Police Chief Mitch McGill.

In fact, McGill said it was his assistant police chief, Derrick Jolley, who worked directly with a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent to track Brown to his residence.

“We located all the evidence from the robbery,” McGill said about things like Brown’s clothes helping to identify him as the robber.

Among the items found was a lime green bandana which was placed over his face during the robbery.

The chief added Brown has previously been charged and convicted of bank robbery.

It still hasn’t been announced how much money was taken in the robbery as the suspect placed the cash in a while plastic garbage sack before leaving the bank.

It’s also still unknown if he was armed with a weapon when the robbery occurred.

The suspect did get into a red or maroon colored four-door car and drive away traveling westbound on state Highway 19 in front of the bank’s location.

(Editor’s Note: More on the accused robber’s arrest will be in Thursday edition of the PV Democrat.)
