No repair timetable for Corvette Museum sinkhole

Structural engineers were continuing to work Thursday to determine what caused the ground to give way beneath eight priceless Corvettes at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Glasgow (Ky.) Daily Times reports that two of the cars that fell into the approximately 40-foot wide, 30-foot deep sinkhole were on loan from General Motors, while the other six belonged to the museum.

Museum spokeswoman Katie Frassinelli speculated that the most valuable car in the sinkhole is a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder, which is one of the GM-owned cars. Also affected were the one millionth and 1.5 millionth Corvettes to be assembled.

No timetable has been established for when repairs to the Skydome section of the museum where the cave-in occurred would begin. Once the sinkhole is determined to be stable, the job of removing the cars can start. There is also no timetable in place for when that area of the museum would re-open, the Daily Times reported.

Below, see security camera footage from the museum, which captured the cave-in as it happened.
