Holiday baskets

PV residents interested in receiving a Christmas food basket from PV Samaritans can sign up from noon to 2 p.m. each Tuesday through Nov. 20 and 3 to 7 p.m. each Thursday through Nov. 15 at the Samaritans food pantry in Wacker Park. There will be no Thanksgiving baskets.

Bike festival

The second Vintage in the Valley Bicycle Festival is set from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Wacker Park in PV. Call Shane Patton at the 405-238-1307, extension 212, for more.

Dog festival

The 3rd annual Phil Henderson Memorial Bark in the Park, a festival for dogs and their owners, is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Wacker Park in PV. Proceeds help the local animal shelter.

Wynnewood vets

The Wynnewood Historical Society and the Ladies of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church will host the showing of the film “Taking Chance” starring Kevin Bacon at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 on the south side of the Garrett Real Estate building, 209 S. Dean McGee. The movie is free to the public as donations go toward wreaths on the graves of military veterans.

Retired educators

The Garvin County Retired Educators Association will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the PV Chamber of Commerce, 112 E. Paul. Regina Brumley, a representative from the K.A.D.E. Medical Transportation company, will speak about the services this company provides in Oklahoma.

Flu clinics

No-cost flu shots are now available at the Garvin County Health Department in PV. The public is asked to call 405-238-7346 first and make an appointment.

United Fund

The PV United Fund will announce the winner of a raffle for the meat of a whole hog at a barbecue dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 at the county fairgrounds.

Maysville benefit

A concert (6 p.m.) and silent auction (5 p.m.) to benefit the Jessica Power Memorial Association is on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Maysville Assembly of God Church.

Fish fry

Paoli Pentecostal Church will host a fish fry fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 3-10 and free for kids 2 and under.

Toy museum

The Toy and Action Figure Museum in PV will feature free admission every second Sunday of the month, typically 1 to 5 p.m., as a way of thanking the community for its support. The next one is Oct. 14.

Medicare seminar

First United Bank in PV, 315 W. Grant, will present Arlen Williams with a free educational seminar to the public on Medicare at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the bank.

Book lectures

The next book lecture at PV's public library is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. The book is “A Homemade Life” by Molly Wizenberg. Professor Robert Greenstreet is scheduled to lead the lecture and discussion. The last in this series is “Secrets of the Tsil Café” by Thomas Fox Averill. Professor David Snider will lead the discussion on Nov. 15.

Men's bridge

Blood drives

The Oklahoma Blood Institute has blood drives on Thursday, Oct. 25 – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Covercraft in PV and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Paoli High School, and from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Stratford High School.

Church singing

The Full Gospel Church of Pauls Valley, 308 S. Pine, hosts a monthly open mic gospel singing the third Saturday of the month starting at 6:30 p.m. The next one is Oct. 20.

Health classes

The PV Public Library is now hosting free weekly classes on gardening in tight spots and healthy cooking. The classes for adults are 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 6. Each one is followed at 3:15 p.m. with a brief presentation for kids. Sign up at the Nora Sparks Warren Memorial Library.

Senior tacos

The Chickasaw Senior Nutrition Site in PV, 109 N. Indian Meridian, will hold a benefit Indian taco sale from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. A bake sale is at 9 a.m. Call 207-9034.

Boo on Bricks

PV's annual Trick or Treating event, Boo on the Bricks, is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on Halloween Day, Oct. 31 in the downtown area.

The Pauls Valley Church of Christ will host its Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Lego Club

A Lego Club for ages seven and up has returned during school days from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays at the PV Public Library. The club now includes board and card games, crafts and other activities.

The city library also has an after school snack program for ages 18 and younger from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. every school day.

Book club

The PV Library Book Club meets at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. The next one on Nov. 13 features “The Hellfire Club” by Jake Tapper.

Kiwanis Club

The Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club now meets monthly at noon the first Wednesday of the month at The Vault Art Space and Gathering Place, 111 E. Paul. The next meeting is Nov. 7.

Democratic Party

The Garvin County Democratic Party meets at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of the month at PV Regional Medical Center. The next one is Nov. 3.

Republican Party

The Garvin County Republican Party holds regular meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of the month at Christian Life Church in PV, 820 S. Walnut. The next one is Nov. 12. Call 405-740-5131.

Antioch lunch

The next First Tuesday lunch at the Antioch School/Senior Center will be at noon Nov. 6. There is no charge but desserts are appreciated.

Pet clinic

The next sign up for a monthly spay and neuter clinic for dogs and cats is at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1 at the PV Animal Shelter. Sign up is normally the first business day of the month. Call 405-238-1303 for more.

Pet pantry

A P.A.W.S. food pantry for dogs and cats is available at PV's animal shelter from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month. The next one is Nov. 13. For information on receiving help or making donations to the effort, call the shelter.
