Pauls Valley Democrat — Family, fun and a bunch of free stuff to do or munch on will soon fill a part of Pauls Valley’s Wacker Park with a gathering meant for the whole community.

It’s called Family Fun Day, set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at the park’s band shell area.

Neil Barlow, pastor at Christian Life Church in Pauls Valley, stresses this event is not just for members of his church but for anyone who likes free eats and some good, old fashioned fun.

“The event is for the whole family to come out and have some fun,” Barlow said.

“The biggest thing for us is it’s a community event, not just for our church,” he said. “It’s for everybody and anybody.

“This is basically done by our church for the community.”

What the general public will find at the event are a variety of games for the kids, including an inflatable slide, and free food featuring hot dogs, chili pies and nachos, to along with some cold drinks.

Last year around 300 hot dogs were served to hungry patrons showing up for the event.

“We’ll have kind of like carnival games for the kids,” Barlow said.

“It’s just a fun day for the family.”

The best part is all the food and activities are free to anyone who wants to join the fun.

According to Barlow, a long list of local businesses will again help out with the event by donating things like cups, plates and “little things for prizes” such as gift cards.

Most of those businesses have helped each of the last several years the event has been held for the community at the PV park.

Entertainment is also a part of the line up with a singing group and puppets for the kids taking the band shell stage.

“Each year more and more people are aware of what this event is all about,” he said.

“It’s a relaxed, fun thing. Kids go from game to game, and the adults get some free food have a nice time.”
