Full dance card for election season

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — There’s still time for residents to get registered to vote or make changes to their voter information before the next big election.

With some elections set for the June 24 primary, the deadline for voter registration is May 30, while June 18 is the last day to request mailed absentee ballots.

A couple of Garvin County area elections are set for June, including a county commissioner race and one for a spot on the Stratford town council.

Longtime District 3 commissioner Johnny Mann of Stratford is going for his seventh term in office.

Mann is set to go against challenger Mike DeArman of Paoli in the primary election.

Also set for that June 24 election is the race between Santee Wade and Stephanie Butenhof for the No. 2 post on the Stratford Board of Trustees.

A number of other races with area interest are also lined up for the general election in November.

District 1 County Commissioner Stan Spivey, a Democrat seeking his first full term in office, will go against Republican challenger Jarod Work. Both are from Lindsay.

Garvin County Associate District Judge Steve Kendall, appointed to the office last year, is set for a challenge from local attorney Kristin Jarman.

District Judge Greg Dixon, serving in Garvin and McClain counties, won a new term without opposition.

The district judge post for Office 5, a newly created position for District 21, which also covers Garvin County, will have an election in November.

Going for that office are Jeff Virgin, currently serving as a special district in McClain County, and Steve Stice, now a special district judge in Cleveland County.

Virgin was appointed to his post last year, while Stice was named to his office in 2010.

The district attorney overseeing the Garvin County area does have an opponent vying for the office.

Incumbent Greg Mashburn, 42, a Republican from Norman, has a Democrat challenger, Mike Millstead, 72, also of Norman.

The office covering Garvin, McClain and Cleveland counties will be contested on the November ballot.

There is a fall race for the House District 20 area as incumbent Bobby Cleveland, 70, R-Slaughterville, is set to go against Democrat challenger Joni Johnson, 67, of Lexington.

Also a part of the upcoming election season are several races at the state and federal levels.
