Election dates stay the same

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — An upcoming election has changed dramatically but a fast approaching deadline still applies to some voters in Garvin County.

The big change for the Sept. 10 ballot is Pauls Valley voters won’t be heading to the polls for a sales tax measure.

The change came earlier this week when PV City Council members voted to rescind the measure until a later time, possibly in the fall.

That election date is still good for at least one area — voters in the Elmore City-Pernell School District who will decide the fate of a school bond issue.

The $7.51 million issue spread out over a series, if passed by at least 60 percent support, would go to construct a new gymnasium and convert ECP High School into a building with separated areas for middle school and high school students.

For now it remains unknown if elections will be necessary in Stratford and Lindsay.

In both cities an open city council seat needs to be filled, which was scheduled for the Sept. 10 vote.

The three-day filing period for prospective candidates closed on Wednesday.

As of early Wednesday the only filing was Sean McKinney for the Ward 1 Board of Trustees office in Stratford.

Any filings in Lindsay were for now unavailable.

For any races that do develop, along with the Elmore school issue, the deadline to register to vote or get a voter’s registration updated for the election is Friday, Aug. 16. The last day to request mailed absentee ballots is Sept. 4.

Pauls Valley voters had also expected to be a part of the September election.

That changed Tuesday night when the half cent sales tax measure to support the operation of Pauls Valley General Hospital was rescinded from this particular ballot.

Another special election will come later in the fall for voters in Maysville.

After the resignation of three council members in Maysville an election has been scheduled for Oct. 8 to let voters choose their replacements.

The filing period for prospective Maysville candidates is Aug. 26-28 at the Garvin County Election Board in the county courthouse.
