One day medical training set in PV

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A special training session is being planned this week for the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps Unit in Garvin and Murray counties.

The free training opportunity is set from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at Pauls Valley General Hospital.

Training will focus on what’s termed “Psychological First Aid.”

It’s geared for the continuing education of mental health professionals, registered nurses and for CLEET. It includes one hour of ethics.

PFA is the “acute intervention of choice” when responding to the psychosocial needs of children, adults and families affected by disaster and terrorism.

Recently developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, with contributions from other individuals involved in coordinating and participating in disaster response, PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short- and long-term adaptive functioning and coping.

The Tier II course is recommended for all OKMRC volunteers.

Instructors for the class are Dr. John Call, Ph.D., J.D., ABPP, and Loren Stein, RNC, MSN.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with training from 9 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m.

Those taking part in the training will break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

There is limited seating so attendees are asked to register by signing up on the OKCMRC homepage, www.okmrc.org. Click on Calendar of Events 6/27/2013 - Garvin & Murray County Psychological First Aid.

Non-OKMRC volunteers can register on https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GV7CTVT.
