More splash time with swim lessons

Barry Porterfield
Pauls Valley Democrat — The strokes and splash in the pool done in a safe way keep on coming for summer swim lessons in Pauls Valley as another session is right around the corner.

The second session of lessons gets started Saturday morning, June 29 as each swimmer coming to the local Bosa indoor pool will be evaluated before being placed in the group that’s right for them.

Aquatic supervisor Billy Tomlinson is all smiles when thinking about the first session of lessons wrapping up this week.

“It’s been great,” he said.

“We’ve had a good amount of kids for this first session and things have gone smoothly.”

This next session will be done just like the first — with participants being evaluated for their comfort in the water rather than classes based on age.

With the exception of babies, it’s this evaluation by certified swim instructors that will determine the level of lessons they will be assigned to during the session.

“We’ll line them up and one by one they’ll get evaluated to see which class they’ll be in,” Tomlinson said.

The evaluations will be done Saturday morning at the Bosa pool.

With that in mind Tomlinson suggests any parents interested in getting their child signed up for this next session go and get the appropriate registration forms.

“Their best bet is to go to the recreation center,” he said about the forms being available at the Reynolds Recreation Center.

After the evaluation day the sessions will again be offered during both the morning and afternoon hours Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will continue through Aug. 1.

The first of the levels is Preschool offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 4 to 4:30 p.m. This one focuses on the basic building blocks of being in the water.

Level 1, which helps kids start to learn good swim habits, is from 10:40 to 11:10 a.m. and 4:40 to 5:10 p.m.

Slowly increasing kids’ swim skills is the focus of Level 2, offered from 11:20 to 11:50 a.m. and 5:20 to 5:50 p.m.

Level 3 and possibly Level 4 is to help kids develop their swimming strokes. It is from noon to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 6:30 p.m.

The next session of Mommy and Me swim lessons for ages 3 and under, offered on Saturdays, will begin July 13.
