Holiday parade gets a theme

emann@pvdemocrat.com — From a magical parade theme to an old fashioned whirl around the ice, early plans are already in place for the holiday season in Pauls Valley.

Erin Creach, tourism director for the city of PV, says early planning is important since so many people need some time to prepare.

She’s really referring to the theme of this December’s Parade of Lights in downtown Pauls Valley.

That theme is “Magical Winter Wonderland.”

“I’ve had several inquiries about what the parade theme was going to be,” Creach said.

“By getting the word out now I’m hoping it will start a buzz, people talking about it.”

The early announcement about the parade’s theme is also a big deal because a lot of people and groups need some time to get ready for the festivities, namely the floats they plan to roll out on the big night.

“It does take a lot of time and energy to put these floats together, so it’s good we get the parade theme out there now,” she said.

By the way, the parade along the usual downtown parade route is set to get underway at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2.

Creach encourages anyone interested in participating in the parade to call her at city hall for information or registration forms. Her phone number there is 405-238-3308, extension 111.

The entry is a $10 toy donation for the local Angel Tree campaign at Pauls Valley’s public library.

Another big push will come sooner than later as Creach is inviting the public to help out with the holiday decorations around the local train depot area.

The big decoration day, normally done on a Saturday, will see a bit of a change this year.

That day this year is set from about noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 as officials from the city of PV and local chamber of commerce are joining forces for this community event.

Those decorations will include placing lights, holiday wreaths and garland around the depot, along with some parts of the downtown area.

Creach says the change to a Friday is being done in the hope more people can come out and get involved.

“If you’ve ever thought about helping out just show up,” Creach said.

“If you can only help on your lunch hour we would love to see you come join us.”

Yet another holiday feature this year is something brand new in PV.

For the first time here an ice rink will be set up in the depot parking lot for the holiday season.

Set to begin on Nov. 29, the rink with artificial ice is bringing the city together with local organizations that can help out and raise funding at the same time.
