Going for the rodeo crown

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A couple of Garvin County round-up clubs are now looking to rope in contestants for upcoming rodeos.

Queen contestants between the ages of 14 and 26 are being sought for the Miss Heritage Days Rodeo Pageant in Pauls Valley.

 

The Elmore City Round-Up Club is also seeking candidates for this year’s rodeo queen and princess.

In Pauls Valley ticket sales will begin soon as the pageant will take place at the Heritage Days Rodeo on June 27-29 at the PV Roundup Club Rodeo Arena.



The pageant will consist of three parts - ticket sales accounting for 50 percent of the contestants score, horsemanship accounting for 25 percent of the contestants score and interview and appearance, which is the remaining 25 percent of the contestants score.

”The Pauls Valley Roundup Club is looking for well-rounded contestants and would like to encourage every contestant to practice their horsemanship and interview and appearance skills,” club officials said.



The horsemanship portion of the pageant will take place at the Pauls Valley Roundup Club Arena. Horses will be provided for each contestant to perform a preselected reining pattern.

The interview portion of the pageant will be held at the arena club house directly after horsemanship.



The pageant winner will receive a Billy Cook Saddle, a saddle pad and $250 of her 2014 Miss Rodeo USA Pageant entry fees paid by the Pauls Valley Roundup Club.

Runners up in the Miss Heritage Days Rodeo Pageant will receive 10 percent of her total ticket sales.

In Elmore City queen candidates (ages 12 and over) and for princess (11 and under) are sought from Garvin and surrounding counties.



Candidates must have access to a horse in good health, have horsemanship skills, be a current member of the club ($5 fee to join) and be clean and neat in appearance.
