bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — Adding a little color to a traditional Garvin County event is the idea behind a 4-H and FFA related contest already underway.

The county’s three commissioners and members of a fair board are inviting any and all of these students to jump in and come up with their own logo for the 2014 Garvin County Free Fair and Horse Show.

With no fee to enter, a cash prize of $300, sponsored by Pauls Valley National Bank, will be given to the 4-H or FFA member whose logo is chosen to represent this year’s fair.

The idea behind the contest, which has a deadline in June, is to get even more interest going for the annual fair later this year.

“The logo contest is for the free fair later this year,” said 4-H Program Assistant Tracie Mullendore.

“This is a brand new thing,” she said. “It’s open to enrolled 4-H and FFA members in Garvin County.

“We’re hoping to revamp, reinvigorate the free fair for bigger participation, not only for youth but also for adults.

“We’re trying to bring back a bigger fair.”

One guideline for the contest is 4-H and FFA members may submit up to two hand-drawn logos, along with an official entry form.

The logo must contain the words “Garvin County Free Fair and Horse Show.”

Scanned hand-drawn logo submissions are acceptable, while entries which fail to conform to the guidelines will be rejected.

All logo submissions will be screened by a panel of judges for basic suitability and adherence to the contest rules.

Entries must be submitted, along with the entry form, no later than 4:30 p.m. June 10 by mail or delivered in person to the Garvin County Cooperative Extension Service located on the first floor of the Garvin County Courthouse in Pauls Valley.

Entry forms may be obtained at the Extension office or downloaded at www.oces.okstate.edu/garvin online.

Entries may also be scanned and emailed to Mullendore at tracie.m.mullendore@okstate.edu.

Judging for the contest is scheduled to take place June 12.

The logo will be featured on the cover of the Garvin County Free Fair guide as well as any other promotional items pertaining to the fair and horse show.
