Pauls Valley Democrat
The time is nearly here for a Pauls Valley group to offer one big salute to a local resident and business for their community work put in over the past year.
A big part of that is input from the local public as the PV Chamber of Commerce looks for nominations for the citizen and corporate citizen of the year for 2013.
The deadline is by noon Friday, May 24 for nomination forms to be filled out and returned to the chamber office located at 112 East Paul in the downtown area.
“You know how important it is to recognize the efforts of people who go above and beyond the call of duty,” said chamber President Della Wilson.
“Some people have a passion,” she said. “That passion leads to getting things done that others don’t think can get done.
“These are the people we want to recognize.”
Once all nominations are in they will be reviewed by a committee made up of past winners.
Eventually both honors will be given at the annual chamber banquet set for June 13.
Nominees for Citizen of the Year should be PV resident for at least two years, be involved in more than one community activity and have contributed to the “greater good of the community.”
Last year’s winner was Richelle Humphrey.
Other recent honors went to Brent Grimmett in 2011, Billie Hays in 2010, Cathy Agee in 2009, Jack Grimmett Jr. in 2008 and Jeff Shultz in 2007.
Corporate nominees should bring a greater social responsibility into the business world, be involved in community projects and events, be strong in community relations, have the ability to mobilize people and groups to address community issues and impact “positive change” in the community.
The 2012 honor went to the Garvin County News Star.
Other recent corporate honors went to the Garvin County Community Living Center in 2011, LA Jacobson, Inc. in 2010, Wal-Mart Distribution Center and Supercenter in 2009, Curwood in 2008 and Pauls Valley National Bank in 2007.
