Blown tire causes area wreck

Norman, Oklahoma — A blown tire is the believed cause of a one-vehicle rollover near Paoli this week resulting in serious injuries for a Davis woman.

The accident came at a listed time of 4:29 p.m. Monday, April 21.

That’s when a 2000 Ford pickup driven by 27-year-old Jana Walker went off Interstate 35, according to a report released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Behind the wheel was Walker, while a 7-year-old girl, whose name has been withheld, was riding along as a passenger.

The OHP report shows Walker was driving the truck northbound on I-35 when its left rear tire blew out causing the vehicle to go off the roadway to the right.

The official cause of the accident was later listed as “unsafe vehicle - tires.”

Once off the road the truck overturned one time coming to rest on its wheels at a site about 1 1/2 miles north and 3.3 miles west of Paoli.

Walker, who was not wearing seat belts at the time, was ejected appoximately 75 feet from the vehicle.

The Davis woman was airlifted from the scene to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

She was initially admitted in critical condition with head, trunk internal and leg injuries.

The young passenger was transported by a Pauls Valley E.M.S. ambulance to Purcell Municipal Hospital.

Wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the girl was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigating the crash was OHP Trooper Tommy Riddle of the Garvin County Detachment.

He was assisted by Pauls Valley firefighters and Garvin County deputies.
