Area woman dies in wreck

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A Wynnewood woman involved in a one-vehicle weekend accident near Pauls Valley was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to an Oklahoma City hospital.

State troopers reported it was Gaylene Chandler, 50, who passed away nearly three hours after the vehicle she was driving went off a highway south of Pauls Valley in the early evening hours Friday.

Chandler was alone while driving a 2004 Chevy that was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 77 when at a listed time of 6:04 p.m. Friday it left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers.

Officials later concluded Chandler overcorrected to the left as the vehicle then crossed both lanes of the highway going off the roadway to the left rolling one time about one mile south of Pauls Valley.

OHP Trooper Heath Green of the Garvin County Detachment reported Chandler, who was not wearing seat belts at the time, was ejected approximately 6 feet from the vehicle.

The trooper’s report also concluded Chandler was driving under the influence of medication, and the vehicle was traveling at a speed unsafe for a roadway curve.

Chandler was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she was admitted in serious condition with head and trunk injuries. Troopers reported being notified at 8:52 p.m. that same night Chandler had passed away.

Assisting OHP at the accident scene were Pauls Valley firefighters and police and Garvin County deputies.
