Deer bad for cycle

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A deer on the roadway proved to be a bad thing for a motorcycle and its two riders during an accident in far southwestern Garvin County.

Both riders from Ardmore suffered injuries when their cycle struck a deer on a highway in the Foster and Pernell area. Driving a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was 34-year-old Dallas Yow.

Riding along as a passenger was Sarah Stidham, 27. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows the cycle was traveling southbound on state Highway 76.

The accident came at about 10:22 p.m. Monday, July 7 when at a site about a mile south of state Highway 29 it struck a deer on the roadway.

The site is a few miles southwest of Elmore City. Apparently getting the worst of it was the driver as Yow was initially listed in critical condition.

Yow was first airlifted from the scene and taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. It was at this metro hospital where he was admitted with head, trunk external, arm and leg injuries.

Stidham was first taken by an Elmore City E.M.S. ambulance to Pauls Valley General Hospital. She was airlifted to the same OU Medical Center.

The Ardmore woman was admitted in serious but stable condition with a head injury. Troopers investigating the crash reported neither rider was wearing a helmet when the collision with the deer occurred.

Assisting OHP Trooper Daniel Arms of the Garvin County Detachment at the scene were Garvin County deputies and Pernell firefighters.
