Homecoming, city revival lead the way — It’s homecoming time for the Panthers, while in Wynnewood a church is planning a true community gathering starting this weekend.

Here in PV activities have been featured each day this week at all local schools.

The festivities hit the high point on Friday, Sept. 20.

Today it’s Jersey Day with high school students taking part in the building of floats.

On Friday it’s Red and Black Day featuring the annual homecoming parade at 1 p.m. with students and floats gathering at the Burr Center.

The parade will again go down Chickasaw Street and travel to Wacker Park.

This year’s theme is Destination Victory.

The theme for floats is Hawaii for seniors, Jungle for juniors, Egypt for sophomores and Bermuda Triangle for freshmen.

Then on Friday night homecoming photos are set for 6 p.m. at the football field.

Queen coronation will take place around 6:45 p.m. at the field.

All the activities are followed by the football game between Pauls Valley and the Lindsay Leopards set to start at 7:30 p.m.

The game also features the return of former Panther coach John Inman, who is now the head coach for Lindsay.

• Another big community event also gets started this weekend.

This one centers around Wynnewood as a local church is inviting anyone and everyone for an “all inclusive” revival called “Community Unity.”

Hosted by Hopewell Church in Wynnewood, the citywide revival is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. each night Sunday through Tuesday, Sept. 22-24 at the Wynnewood City Park.

Housed in many structures after first being established in Wynnewood back in 1866, Hopewell Church is currently being resurrected under the leadership of Rev. Jokori Taylor.

• Also this weekend is what’s called a “Family Fun Day” hosted by a Pauls Valley church.

Christian Life Church in PV will host the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Wacker Park Band Shell.

The public is naturally invited to show up and take part in the free food, live music and a number of other activities.
