A parade with some real rewards

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — A holiday parade might be rewarding enough on its own but the traditional one coming for Pauls Valley will have a bit more.

It’s called the Parade of Lights, which is set for a 7 p.m. start time on Monday, Dec. 2 with the customary parade route in downtown PV.

Along with the normal holiday cheer this parade will also include some reward cash for participants judged to be the best, said PV’s tourism director Erin Creach.

“For each category we have first, second and third place prize money,” Creach said, referring to floats taking part in the local holiday event.

There will be three categories for floats, including a “Oh Holy Night” theme for the religious oriented floats.

“We just want to get the word out so maybe we can get more people involved in the parade,” she said.

Teaming up to make this a big time parade are the city’s tourism department and the local chamber of commerce.

Prize money will also be available for the top three marching bands and local “talent” performing before the parade.

Set to serve as the MC for the event are the Toy and Action Figure Museum duo of Kevin Stark and Jodi Wood, Creach said.

The theme of the parade is “Magical Winter Wonderland.”

Entry includes a $10 toy donation for the local Angel Tree campaign at the public library.

Call Creach at her city hall office, 405-238-3308, extension 111, for more information on registration forms or the parade.

As in the past an annual chili fundraiser hosted by the PV Fire Department will come just before the parade.

Creach is also reminding Pauls Valley residents they are invited to take part in the placement of holiday decorations in and around the local train depot.

The decoration work day is set to go from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 as lights, holiday wreaths and garland will be placed in the depot area and some parts of downtown.

The Friday community style work day was set as a way to hopefully get more people to come out and join in with the decorations.

“If you’ve ever thought about helping out just show up,” Creach said.

“If you can only help on your lunch hour we would love to see you come join us.”
