ECU, area colleges announce honor rolls

Seventy-three East Central University students have been inducted into ECU’s chapter of Alpha Chi, a national honor society for students in the top 10 percent of the junior or senior class.

Garvin County area students selected for membership include:

•Lindsay: Joanie Springman.

•Paoli: Amanda Webster.

•Pauls Valley: Asheley Sharer.

•Stratford: Debra Blackwood.

The ceremony was conducted by sponsor Dr. Trisha Yarbrough and co-sponsors Dr. John Yozzo, Dr. Susan Payne, Dr. Anne Davis, Dr. Pat Fountain and Dr. Christine Pappas.

Students selected an influential faculty member to pin them during the candlelight ceremony attended by more than 200 faculty, students and families.

Dr. Richard Rafes, president of ECU, welcomed the guests, which included the national Alpha Chi Distinguished Alumni Award winner, Dr. Tommy Hewett, a 1967 graduate.

Alpha Chi inductees also must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5. The objectives of Alpha Chi are to promote and recognize superior scholarship and the elements of character that make scholarship effective for service.

The society, founded in 1922, has about 300 chapters in 45 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and represents the highest academic honor on any member campus.

Other college honor rolls announced this week were:

Southeastern OSU

Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant has released the Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall 2006 semester.

Named to the list was Rebecca Raelynn Bowen of Pauls Valley.

To be eligible for this distinction, the student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a 3.5 grade-point average and no grade lower than B.



Central Oklahoma

Hundreds of students were named to the newest listing of the honor rolls at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmund.

Garvin County area students named to the President’s Honor Roll, reserved for students making straight A’s, which is a 4.0 grade point average, include:

• Elmore City: Cristy Leigh Smith.

• Lindsay: Marcia Christine Holden.

• Stratford: Joshua Clint Wood.

Lindsay students named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, which is for a 3.5 GPA or higher for the semester, were Yuvawnda L. Adkins, Shelby Diane Badertscher, Amy Michelle Butcher and Terra S. Yandell.



Murray State College

The honor rolls at Murray State College in Tishomingo for the fall 2006 semester include several students from area communities.

The president’s honor roll consists of students who compiled a 4.0 grade point average in 12 or more credit hours of collegiate-level course work.

The members of the academic vice president’s honor roll required a 3.0-3.99 GPA in 12 or more credit hours of collegiate-level course work with no grade lower than a B.

Garvin County area students, listed by hometown, named to the president’s honor roll were:

• Elmore City: Destiny Miles and Maira Espinoza De Frazier.

• Pauls Valley: Timothy Turner.

• Wynnewood: Kristin Huffaker, Carla Smith and Cynthia Tackett.

Area students named to the academic vice president’s honor roll were:

• Elmore City: Tina Casey, Stevie Knapp and Tara Williams.

• Pauls Valley: Caleb Akers, Lindsey Heil, Jonathan Parks and Michael Stokes.

• Stratford: Amanda McKinley.

• Wynnewood: Gladys Johnson.



Rose State College

Rose State College in Midwest City has released the names of students qualifying for the fall 2006 honor rolls.

Named from the Garvin County area to the President’s Honor Roll were:

• Lindsay: Barbara Lorraine Powell.

• Wayne: Tiffany Nicole Cox.

To qualify for the honor a student must have 4.00 grade-point average.

Included on the Vice President’s Honor Roll were:

• Lindsay: Krysti Ann Douglas and Kristy Renee Newey.

• Paoli: Jason Kyle Ward.

• Pauls Valley: Deborah Joan Freeman and Misty Ann Garrison.

To qualify for the Vice President’s Honor Roll the student must have a 3.99 to 3.00 grade point average.
