Looking forward to number 30

By Jeff Shultz
Publisher/Managing Editor

Someone once told me that I am rarely at a loss for words.

I admit as I get older I tend to be more opinionated than I used to be and let the words travel freely from my brain to my mouth.

And I’ve been known to throw out a quip or two depending on the situation I’m facing.

But there was one time in my life when I stood speechless. It wasn’t that I had nothing to say, but I just couldn’t begin to form the words to express how I was feeling at that moment.

It was 29-years ago Monday I stood at the front of Dickson Baptist Church in Midwest City and when Nanette entered the church, escorted by her father, I stood speechless.

She was so beautiful. No, she was gorgeous. Wait, I think the word I’m looking for is... Ah, she still makes my heart stop.

For one brief moment in my life I had to have been in the perfect will of God. At that moment God looked down on me and, for whatever reason I still can’t understand, said, “Jeff, I’m giving you a blessing above all blessings. Meet Nanette.”

President John F. Kennedy once said the history of the world would forever be defined as what the world was like before Pearl Harbor and what it became after Pearl Harbor.

My life can be similarly measured. There is my life before Nanette and then there is my life after meeting her.

To tell the truth, I can’t imagine my life now without her. My life before she came into my world was nothing but a blur. My life after we met has been nothing but wonderful.

Schotzie I will always love you and cherish every moment I spend with you. Happy 29th Anniversary.

This past week we temporarily lost one of our family members.

Our 11-month old yellow lab puppy Gracie wondered off for a couple of days.

Our other yellow lab, Duke, felt the loss as well.

After running a couple of ads in the Democrat and spending countless hours driving through alleys and up and down streets, we finally were reunited with our little girl.

Our thanks to everyone who called to give us tips on where Gracie might be.

We especially want to thank Democrat carriers Tommy and Sandra Henning.

It was their keen eyes who spotted Gracie on Longmire Lake Road and advised us as to where she was.
