Bridge renamed to honor PV hero

— Legislation to name a bridge in Garvin County after a fallen miltary hero became a reality last month when the full House unanimously passed the bill authored by State Rep. Wes Hilliard.
House Bill 2691, co-authored by Hilliard, renamed the Washita River Bridge located on U.S. Highway 77 in Garvin County to the “Cpl. Bryan J. Scripsick Memorial Bridge.”
The state Department of Transportation will place permanent signs on the bridge bearing Scripsick’s name.
“This is a way to honor a fallen hero who served his country in Iraq until his life was taken in a terrorist attack,” said Hilliard, D-Sulphur. “I hope this small gesture will help his memory and legacy will live on.”
Cpl. Bryan J. Scripsick was one of four Marines killed during a September 6 suicide bomb attack in Iraq. Scripsick was a 2004 Pauls Valley graduate and died at the age of 22.
Hilliard said the bridge will also serve as a reminder to all that there still are many others overseas fighting for our freedoms—and some who have lost their lives.
