Election scene filling up

By Barry Porterfield
Pauls Valley Daily Democrat

The election scene in PV got one addition while others are filling up a little bit after Tuesday’s second day of a municipal filing period.

One new name was added to the list as two current members of the Pauls Valley City Council each have opponents with Wednesday’s final filing day yet remaining.

With an election date set for April 7, filings show Mayor Tim Gamble is set to be opposed by two challengers, Kevin Stark and Jerry Suggs, for one of the four-year spots on the local city council.

Also a part of the filings is the council office currently held by Gary Alfred, who filed Monday his intention to run for another term.

Filing that same day to oppose Alfred was Chris Coon.

Tuesday’s filings also show a number of offices in other area cities did begin to draw some interest.

All five of the offices listed in Elmore City now have at least one candidate signed up to run.

The offices with a single candidate include Larry Dale Cleveland for mayor, Randal Shane McFadden for Ward 3 council, Keith C. Jackson for a two-year unexpired Ward 4 term and Lisa Rollings for city clerk/treasurer.

EC’s Ward 1 council office now has two interested candidates, David K. Schmidt and Searcy J. Simmons Jr.

All four offices in Wynnewood now have one candidate in each.

Four-year spots on the Wynnewood City Council have candidates with Gail Mayberry (Ward 1), Ramon H. Airington (Ward 2), Judge T. Blackwood (Ward 3) and James “Sonny” Hays (Ward 4).

With two four-year offices in Paoli both Tracy Beckelheimer and Lesana Carter have filed, while no candidates have signed up for a two-year unexpired term.

Mary Jane Davis is the lone candidate for Paoli’s town clerk/treasurer.

In Maysville a total of three choices have filed for the three four-year posts on the board of trustees there — Marshall Neill, Trinity Jones and Jacque Martin.

A two-year unexpired term for town clerk/treasurer drew the interest of Stephanie Penrod.

After the second day of filing Dorothy Pruitt and D. Mark Stone have filed for the four-year Ward 4 term on the board of trustees in Stratford.

One other trustee office in Stratford still has no candidates.

The lone candidate for Stratford’s town treasurer is Sheila L. Keith.

Filings are also currently underway in Lindsay with the municipal election date there set for March 3.
