Dispute leads to assault charge

A dispute inside a Maysville residence now has a Missouri man facing a felony assault charge.

The specific allegation facing Johnathan Rambo Brown, 22, of Joplin, Mo., is assault and battery with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, filed Wednesday in Garvin County District Court.

Brown is accused of using a stick, and more specifically a piece of lumber known as a 2-by-4 board, to strike an unnamed man in the head during a dispute this past weekend.

No details have been disclosed offering more information on the cause of the alleged acts. It’s believed an argument occurred related to a dispute involving another individual.

A filed affidavit does show a dispute between the two men took place on Saturday at a Maysville home in the 800 block of 4th.

Robert Peterson of the Maysville police reported initially being contacted about a subject who had been struck on the head with a bat and was at that time unconscious on the floor with blood everywhere.

Arriving at the residence Peterson reported he found the unresponsive man on the floor with blood around his head.

According to the affidavit, a number of people at the scene identified Brown as the person responsible for the assault.

One of the witnesses later told police that Brown had admitted to them he did use the piece of lumber to strike the second man during a dispute.

Brown was reportedly intoxicated when later found by the officer at another location in Maysville. He was taken to county jail and booked in on the complaints of assault with a dangerous weapon and maiming.

During a court appearance in the case Brown was handed a $100,000 bond. His next court date is April 24.
