Wreck claims 2 PV lives

A Memorial Day weekend accident in Okfuskee County claimed the lives of two Pauls Valley residents.

Killed in the one-vehicle wreck on Saturday were Lavon Sampson, 24, and Julia Jones, 26.

State troopers reported Sampson was driving a 2000 Chevy Tahoe westbound in U.S. Highway 62 when for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway.

The vehicle went into a broad slide before rolling five times and striking a utility pole.

Sampson was ejected approximately 5 feet from the vehicle’s point of rest, while Jones was thrown about 28 feet, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Both Sampson and Jones were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers, also Pauls Valley residents, did make it out of the accident OK.

Holly Johnson, 24, was taken to a hospital in Prague, where she was treated for a head injury and released.

Not injured in the accident was Cody Fields, 25.

OHP troopers reported seat belts in the vehicle were not in use at the time of the accident.

Those same troopers also reported it appeared the vehicle was moving at an unsafe speed on the two-lane asphalt roadway and an odor of an alcoholic beverage was present for the driver.
