Area wrecks take their toll

From Staff Reports

Alcohol is believed to have caused an accident that claimed the life of a Wayne man, while unsafe speed was the listed reason for a second Garvin County area accident over the weekend.

Driving alone when he was killed Friday was David Davenport, 40.

State troopers listed the cause of the accident near Rosedale in McClain County as driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Wayne man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner after the 2003 Nissan he was driving went off a roadway about 350 yards south of 130th Street in Rosedale.

Once the vehicle went off the roadway Davenport is reported to have overcorrected, which resulted in him losing control of the car.

The vehicle then went into an embankment and rolled several times landing approximately 300 feet off the roadway in a pasture.

Troopers reported Davenport was not wearing seat belts at the time.

In a separate accident two Blanchard residents were injured when what authorities described as unsafe speed took their vehicle off Interstate 35 in far southern Garvin County.

Hurt were the driver Nehemiah M. Alexander, 20, and a passenger, Jordan L. McKinnen, 19.

Reports show their 1997 Subaru was traveling northbound when it went off the roadway to the left at about 1:25 p.m. Sunday.

Alexander reportedly overcorrected sending the vehicle to the right.

The vehicle then went left and right again before it rolled 1 1/2 times coming to rest on its top.

McKinnen was pinned in the vehicle for 30 minutes before being freed by Davis and Wynnewood firefighters.

She was airlifted by the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where reports show she was admitted in serious condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

Alexander was taken by Murray County EMS to Pauls Valley General Hospital. He was admitted in good condition with head, arm and leg injuries.

Troopers reported McKinnen was the only one wearing belts at the time of the accident.
