Angel tree helps provide gifts

People who need some help to purchase Christmas gifts for their children can stop by the Pauls Valley library beginning Thursday to sign up for the Angel Tree program.

Names of selected children, along with some information about their age, clothing sizes and gift suggestions, are hung as ornaments on the tree. People may then select an angel and buy gifts for that child.

The angel tree goes up Thursday at the library, Librarian Tina Hume said, and that opens the opportunity for people to apply for the program.

Applications will be accepted through Nov. 20, Hume said. People may apply between 1 and 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday; from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20.

Applications are then reviewed and successful applicants are notified.

People who want to buy gifts for children on the angel tree can start picking out their angels this week, too, Hume said.

“When applicants are approved we put the children’s information on the angel tree. People who want to help can start picking up angels on Friday, Nov. 13,” Hume said.

Each child on the tree receives two gifts that each cost about $10, Hume said.

The gifts must be returned to the library, unwrapped, by Dec. 4. Parents can pick their children’s’ gifts up on Dec. 17 and 18.
