It’s a road show for the animal shelter

In an effort to help homeless animals by making pet adoption more convenient, the Pauls Valley Animal Shelter plans an adoption booth downtown this weekend.

Animal shelter Director Carrie Daley said the booth will be set up at the Santa Fe Depot during Saturday’s Dickens of a Christmas festival.

The animals will arrive at 1 p.m. and any which are not adopted Saturday will be returned to the shelter at dark.

“We will have several cats and dogs for people to choose from and they can take their pets home that very day,” Daley said.

People will undergo a standard adoption interview and be charged $35 for their new pet, she said.

While the goal is to find a loving home for the cats and dogs at the shelter, Carey said she wants people to carefully consider the responsibilities involved.

“We want people to adopt these animals but we want them to count the cost first,” Carey said. “Sometimes people see these cute little animals and want to take them home, but as the pets get older, reality sets in.

“This needs to be a lifetime commitment and not just an impulse thing,” Carey said.
