bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — Plans continue to march forward for a festive event in Pauls Valley expected to bring plenty of holiday sights.

A number of entries have already signed up to be in the Christmas Parade of Lights set for a 7 p.m. start on Monday, Dec. 3 in downtown PV.

PV’s tourism director Erin Creach says the entries look good right now and even more are invited to be a part of the holiday parade.

“It’s going very well,” Creach said about parade plans. “We’ve got lots of applicants, and we are ready to go.

“We have some floats, some people riding in cars, there are entries from a couple of tractor clubs and some churches will be there,” she said.

There will also be a choir group made up of local elementary students, who are expected to get started around 6:30 p.m. with a few Christmas songs in different downtown spots.

“For those who still want to be in the parade all you have to do is call me here at city hall,” Creach said.

The number to call at city hall is 405-238-3308.

As for any parade floats, themes to be judged are religious, children’s and a kind of general category. There will be prize money for the top three entries in each of the categories.

To enter something into the parade there’s no real cost. All that’s asked is a small fee for each entry that goes to a good community cause.

The entry fee is a $10 value toy to be donated to the Pauls Valley Angel Tree campaign, which benefits low income students in PV and Whitebead.

Once this year’s parade does begin the route will be the same as in the past.

It starts at the Burr Center, moves north on Chickasaw Street, makes a left turn on Paul Avenue at the site of city hall, then makes another left turn on Willow Street as the procession travels back to the Burr parking lot.

The very next night another holiday parade will march down the streets — this time in Lindsay.

The Lindsay Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is set for a 5:30 p.m. start on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Everyone is welcome to participate and encouraged to attend. Five $50 cash drawings will be held after the parade as well as a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus who will be delivering candy sacks for the children.

There will be cash prizes awarded parade entry winners and plaques for commercial entries. Several bikes for the kids will be given away.

The theme for the parade is, “Peace on Earth.”
