Cause of Monday wreck under investigation

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Authorities are still looking into what caused a car to go off a highway between Pauls Valley and Paoli, where it was struck by a passing tractor truck.

Hurt in the two-vehicle collision on Monday was Elisa Webb Moutray-Oler, 41, of Austin, Texas.

Moutray-Oler was alone while driving a 2008 Acura southbound on Interstate 35.

A report released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol shows troopers later investigating the crash determined the woman lost control of the car while driving in the rain.

After traveling off the highway the car struck a bridge, where it came to rest sideways in the lanes of traffic on I-35.

The OHP report shows that occurred at around 10:41 a.m. Oct. 14 at an interstate site in between the PV and Paoli exits. The actual site was about 4 miles north of Pauls Valley.

Driving into the scene was a semi truck driven by Eric Peters, 40, of Purcell.

According to troopers, Peters was also traveling southbound and failed to see the vehicle on the highway because of the rain, resulting in his truck striking Moutray-Oler’s car on the driver’s side door.

Moutray-Oler was pinned inside for about a half hour before being freed by Pauls Valley firefighters using the Hurst tool.

The report shows Moutray-Oler was initially taken by a Pauls Valley E.M.S. ambulance to a Norman hospital.

She was later transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where she was admitted in serious condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

Troopers determined Moutray-Oler was “apparently normal” in the moments leading up to the crash.

The cause of the collision is still officially under investigation.

Peters was not injured in the wreck, while both drivers were listed as wearing seat belts.

OHP Trooper Heath Green was also assisted at the scene by Paoli firefighters and Garvin County deputies.
