Hefty bond set in drug case — A Texas man is now facing a hefty bond after bundles of two different illegal drugs were found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Garvin County.

Two felony charges, including drug trafficking, were filed earlier this week against Ledon Anthony Ray Allen, 28, of Duncanville, Texas.

The formal allegations against Allen stem from his recent encounter with a District 21 task force officer.

The officer, Darren Morgan, is part of a law enforcement group working the judicial district that includes Garvin, McClain and Cleveland counties.

The filed affidavit shows he was in his patrol car parked near Interstate 35 observing traffic late last week when a vehicle was spotting going slightly over the speed limit a few miles southwest of Wynnewood.

The vehicle driven by Allen was traveling northbound at a listed speed of 73 mph with the interstate’s posted limit set at 70.

The traffic stop, which came after the vehicle also made an unsafe lane change, was made about 10 miles south of Pauls Valley.

When the officer walked up to the vehicle he asked for the individual’s driver’s license and insurance verification.

The driver, who turned out to be Allen, was then asked to get out of the vehicle. It was here the traffic stop became anything but routine.

“When Allen stepped out I observed a taped up bundle of contraband fall out of the vehicle,” Morgan stated in his report.

“Allen picked up the bundle and ran north into a field.”

A foot chase soon turned into Allen being tasered by the officer as the suspect was eventually taken into custody, according to the affidavit.

An inventory of Allen’s vehicle resulted in two bundles being found with each one containing a different type of drug.

One bundle contained about 63 grams of methamphetamine, while the other had about 34 grams of cocaine.

Morgan reported both bundles field tested positive for drugs.

The actual criminal charges filed against Allen in Garvin County District Court included trafficking in illegal drugs and attempting to escape from arrest or detention.

Court records show a total bond of $50,000 was set in the case.

Allen’s next court appearance is currently scheduled for June 13.
