Good eats with church breakfast

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — The tradition goes on for a Pauls Valley church class and a tasty community get-together that’s been around for a long time.

It’s been nearly 50 years, 48 to be exact, since PV’s First United Methodist Church first started holding its annual Groundhog Breakfast.

This next one is a little more than two weeks away set for Saturday, Feb. 1 at the church located at 401 North Willow.

Again pitching in to help lead the way is church member Jennifer Samford.

Although the breakfast treats are the real crowd-pleaser here, Samford says there’s so much more as the event brings people together and gives them a chance to catch up or just visit for a while.

“It’s a great community event,” she said. “It’s a great place to catch up with someone you might not have seen for a while.

“So just come and sit and visit and have a great breakfast.”

Times for the all-you-can-eat feast are from 7 a.m. to noon on Feb. 1.

The tradition of the breakfast started with the church’s Crusaders Sunday school class.

Stepping in more recently to hold the event are members of another class, Sunday Morning Live.

“This is what we do every year,” Samford said.

“It’s a fundraiser for our Sunday school class.”

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Those tickets can be purchased in advance from Sunday school class members or from Samford at the Reynolds Recreation Center or at the door the morning of the breakfast.
