Lindsay teen hurt in weekend wreck

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A Lindsay teenager was critically hurt in a one-vehicle accident over the weekend in neighboring Grady County.

Sustaining the most severe of the injuries was 16-year-old Cody Johnson.

Johnson was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Michael K. Taylor, also 16 and of Lindsay.

State troopers investigating the crash site concluded some type of distraction inside the vehicle is what caused the accident.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows Taylor was driving the vehicle westbound on state Highway 19.

At a listed time of 12:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 the undisclosed distraction led to the truck being steered off the roadway to the right.

According to the report, the vehicle was then overcorrected as it departed the roadway to the left where it struck a tree.

No details were available on what the distraction was that authorities believe led to the accident.

Airlifted from the scene was Johnson, who was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

He was listed in critical condition with trunk internal injuries.

Both Taylor and a second passenger, Tracy L. Pennington, 38, Lindsay, were taken by Grady-McClain E.M.S. ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital.

Taylor was treated for a trunk internal injury and released.

Pennington was treated for a head and arm injury and released.

OHP Trooper Corey Comer of the Caddo County Detachment reported only the driver was wearing seatbelts when the accident occurred.

Assisting at the scene were Grady County deputies and Alex firefighters.
