Vote deadline gets even closer

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Pauls Valley voters need to remember there’s one more election right around the corner as a runoff vote will decide a local city council seat.

Incumbent council member Hal Blevins and challenger Zac Brumley will square off again, this time during a runoff election set for Tuesday, May 14.

Also getting closer is the deadline for voters to request mailed absentee ballots.

Election Board Secretary Doylene Cunningham urges voters interested in the mailed absentees to apply as early as they can as the deadline is by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

“At least two mail transactions must be made,” Cunningham said.

“The county election board must mail the ballots to the voter and the voter must return the voted ballots by mail.”

Ballots must be in the hands of election officials by 7 p.m. on the May 14 election day in order to be counted.

Cunningham stresses any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot in any election in which he or she is eligible to vote. No stated reason for voting absentee is needed.

Applications forms are available at the Garvin County Election Board office in the county courthouse in Pauls Valley.

Early voting will also be available with in-person absentee voting at the Election Board on May 10 and May 13.

Also at the Election Board office are sample ballots, although for PV voters it’s not really that complicated.

Blevins is going for his second term on the city council, while challenger Brumley looks to take the post and the four-year term that goes to the winner.

During the primary election earlier this month Blevins was the top vote-getter followed by Brumley and Jeff Paine in third place.
