Area man hurt on 4-wheeler

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A Garvin County man was hurt when the four-wheeler he was riding was struck by a road grader in an accident Friday morning.

A report released by state troopers shows Martin Gates II, 42, was injured when the four-wheeler he was driving was struck by a 2012 Caterpillar motor grader a few miles from Pernell in a southwestern corner of the county.

The accident came at a listed time of 9:44 a.m. Friday when the four-wheeler pulled in front of the stationary grader.

Steven McConnell, 53, of Elmore City, failed to notice the other vehicle when he moved the grader eastbound.

At that point the grader struck the four-wheeler, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The accident took place at a site about 2 miles north and 2 miles east of Pernell on private property.

Gates was initially taken by Elmore City E.M.S. to Pauls Valley General Hospital.

He was later taken by a PV ambulance to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma, where he was admitted in good condition with leg injuries.

McConnell was not injured in the accident, troopers reported.

OHP Trooper Doug Brinson of the Murray/Garvin County Detachment led the investigation at the accident site.
