Wreck takes life of Elmore City woman

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Authorities are still unsure what caused a pickup to go off an area roadway resulting in the death of an Elmore City woman.

The one-vehicle accident came on Halloween night as 56-year-old Robin Elizabeth Smith was a passenger in a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup.

A report released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol shows it remains unknown who was driving the truck.

Known for sure is Smith was the passenger in the truck as it traveled northbound on a county road.

State troopers reported they’re still not sure why the truck crossed the center line of the roadway just after 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

The site was about a mile west of Elmore City and nearly a mile north of state Highway 29.

An OHP investigation still centers on who was driving the pickup as it ran off the roadway striking a guardrail. The vehicle then rotated against the guardrail and came to rest.

Smith was later pronounced dead at the scene. No information was available on the injuries she sustained in the accident.

Additional information also was unavailable on the second person believed to have been driving the truck at the time.

Officials at the scene did report seat belts were not in use at time of the accident.

OHP Trooper Doug George of the Garvin County Detachment was assisted at the scene by other area troopers, Garvin County deputies and Elmore City firefighters, police and E.M.S.
