Home invasion case goes to trial

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — A whole host of prospective jurors stepped up to answer questions Monday as the trial got underway for one of five defendants in a Pauls Valley area home invasion case dating back to 2010.

Facing that long line of potential jurors was Steven Thompson,, 33, also known as “Petey G,” and his defense attorney Arlan Bullard of Pauls Valley.

Thompson is among the group of five accused of being the masked men who forced their way into homes in Pauls Valley and Elmore City for apparent burglaries on Nov. 14-15, 2010.

The others include Justin Robbins, 24, Tygue Stephens, 28, Jonathon Smith, 23, and Derrick Lane, 23.

Each of the suspects faces multiple felony counts that include conspiracy, burglary, robbery, assault and kidnapping.

Thompon’s case is the first to reach the trial stage as jury selection continued throughout most of Monday in a Garvin County District courtroom.

Testimony in the case is expected to go through at least Wednesday.

During the case’s preliminary hearing back in the summer of 2011 testimony was given from one Pauls Valley woman and an Elmore City couple describing the terror they felt from the incidents as the men wearing hoodies and masks or bandanas forced their way into the homes.

After the individuals inside were terrorized the group of suspects ultimately left with a variety of stolen money and items.

Pauls Valley authorities have testified most of the suspects did confess to taking part in the crime.

One of the suspects reportedly told police all five of the defendants had gathered at a PV trailer to discuss the idea of robbing the local home.

Overseeing this week’s trial in a Pauls Valley courtroom is District Judge Greg Dixon.
