Wreck comes on icy bridge

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Wintery weather contributed to a two-vehicle accident over the weekend in western Garvin County near Lindsay.

State officials investigating the wreck site concluded it was the unsafe speed of one vehicle on an icy road that caused the Friday night accident.

Injured was 28-year-old Sylvia Theriot of Kingwood, Texas.

Theriot was traveling alone while driving a 2004 Chevy pickup.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows the vehicle was traveling westbound on state Highway 19.

Coming from the opposite direction on the same highway was a semi-truck driven by Leonard Ramming, 57, of Marlow.

At a listed time of 5:50 p.m. Nov. 22 the pickup driven by Theriot lost control on the bridge over the Washita River about 1 1/2 miles east of Lindsay.

State troopers reported the accident occurred because Theriot’s vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed for the winter conditions, which included ice on the bridge’s roadway.

Once the pickup lost control on the bridge it went left of the road’s center line and right into the path of the approaching semi-truck, which struck Theriot’s vehicle on the passenger side.

Theriot was taken by a Lindsay E.M.S. ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital. She was admitted in stable condition with neck injuries.

Ramming was not injured in the accident.

Troopers reported both individuals were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the wreck.

OHP Trooper Heath Green of the Garvin/Murray County Detachment investigated the accident.

Others assisting at the scene were Garvin County deputies and Lindsay firefighters.
