bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — The Maysville Public Library has been back in business since repairing a major leak to the roof last spring.

Part of the building experiences minor flooding due to damage in an unoccupied structure next door, according to Librarian Janet Dinwiddie.

As a result, they have been saving funds, the Fixin it Up Fundraiser, to correct this problem. Once something is worked out with the owner of said structure.

“We still haven’t gotten everything as far as water damage,” said Dinwiddie.

“We do want to have to have all the money ready when we’re ready to repair.”

Set to be held Thursday, April 17 at the library from 3 to 7 p.m., it’s a fundraiser that’s actually an evolving event in progress.

Vendors will donate proceeds from sales or items to a raffle being held at the end of the evening, said Dinwiddie.

Suggestions for ways to contribute to the cause or donations of raffle items are welcomed.

Kids will have something to look forward to as the Easter Bunny will be there to take photos as a fundraiser. There will also be barbecue sandwich, drink and chips meal sold for $5 each.

“Different people come in different times,” said Dinwiddie. “Really it’s just a way to get people into the library and give them something to do.”

It will help repair a leak from a neighboring building where water seeps through the walls. It will help repair the floor in the community room in the back, said Dinwiddie.

They have pulled up carpet and taken down ceiling tiles, until next door part fixed. Any leftover funds will go toward buying library supplies like books.

“It’s not as bad as it was, but you don’t want to put anything down and have it messed up again,” said Dinwiddie.

The main thing is to bring people in see what’s going on… It’s definitely a benefit doing this.”
