Icy roads factor into deadly wreck

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Icy road conditions played a big part in a three-vehicle accident resulting in the death of a Lindsay man early Monday morning.

Killed in the accident near Lindsay was 39-year-old Chad Dickenson.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows Dickenson was driving a 2006 Buick eastbound on state Highway 19. Riding as a passenger was Randy Dickenson, 35.

At a listed time of 6:55 a.m. Feb. 10, the older Dickenson was attempting to pull onto the highway’s shoulder when he lost control of the vehicle at a site about 4 miles east of Lindsay.

State troopers later listed the cause of the accident as the vehicle’s unsafe speed for snow or ice on the roadway.

As this was happening two other vehicles were approaching from the westbound direction of the same highway.

Pauls Valley resident Gary T. Klutts, 35, was alone while driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup.

Also alone was 22-year-old Brandon McCurdy of Lindsay, who was driving a 2011 Ford pickup.

With Dickenson’s vehicle out of control it crossed the highway’s center line and struck Klutts’ pickup, which then collided with the truck driven by McCurdy.

The OHP report shows Chad Dickenson was pinned in the vehicle for about 30 minutes before being extricated by Lindsay fire and rescue officials using the Hurst tool.

Dickenson was pronounced dead at the scene by Lindsay E.M.S. officials. He was later taken to a funeral home in nearby Maysville.

The same report also shows Randy Dickenson was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Lindsay, where he was treated and released.

Klutts and McCurdy were not injured in the accident, according to the OHP.

Investigating the crash was OHP Trooper Tommy Riddle of the Garvin County Detachment.

Assisting at the scene was Trooper Doug George, also of Garvin County, Maysville police and Garvin County deputies.
