GED testing on the clock in PV

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — The clock is now ticking down on anyone looking to take advantage of the convenience of having a GED testing center in Pauls Valley to earn their high school equivalency.

Major changes in the national testing system means the place to earn your GED here locally will soon shut down for good.

“This is a big deal because up to this point people have come to this school, they would take the classes here and then could sign up to take the GED tests,” said Theola Jackson, who oversees the local GED testing site located on the Pauls Valley High School campus.

“It was much more convenient,” she said. “That won’t be the case after December, which for some people can be a big problem.

“Anyone thinking about the GED tests, I encourage them to call us now because time is running out.

“After December it will be more expensive, the test will be more difficult and you’ll have to drive a longer distance to find a center.”

According to Jackson, the uniform GED test is updated every decade to reflect new standards.

Now all centers will change the way the test is given with a system that is done only on computer.

“For us it’s been pencil and paper since the testing started,” she said.

“The new test will be completely computerized.”

With the local GED testing site not being updated with the necessary computers it will close down at the end of the 2013 year.

“Here we didn’t have any computer testing. After December the closest computerized testing for us will be Chickasha, Duncan, Lawton, Ardmore and OCCC,” Jackson said, referring to Oklahoma City Community College.

She adds Ada is a possibility, while it’s believed the nearby Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne will only offer the classes preparing students for the new tests.

For the Pauls Valley site tests are still planned for October, November and December before the service shuts down locally.

Anyone wanting more information should call the local center at 405-238-1233.
