One dies in truck wreck near EC

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — One big truck pulling into the path of another is what state troopers believe caused a two-vehicle accident near Elmore City this week resulting in the death of a Kansas man.

Robert Eugene Snyder Jr., a 55-year-old man from Corning, Kan., was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision Tuesday morning about 2 miles west of Elmore City.

Snyder was alone while driving a 2004 Peterbilt semi-truck westbound on state Highway 29 when a second vehicle pulled into its path at a listed time of 10:59 a.m. Oct. 1.

Driving the International semi-truck was Joseph Moore, 75, of Maysville.

Moore’s vehicle was traveling northbound on a county road when, according to troopers, it failed to yield at a stop sign and pulled into the path of Snyder’s approaching truck.

While Moore was not injured in the accident, Snyder was pinned in his vehicle for about 2 hours before being extricated by Elmore City fire and rescue first-responders using the “Jaws of Life” tool. He was then pronounced dead at the scene.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report released Tuesday night shows troopers concluded seatbelts were in use in the trucks.

It also determined the official cause of the accident was “failure to yield from stop sign” as both drivers were believed to be “apparently normal” leading up to the collision.

OHP Trooper Tommy Riddle investigated the crash with assistance from a number of other troopers from the Garvin/Murray County Detachment.

Also assisting at the scene were Garvin County deputies and Elmore City police and E.M.S.
