Area wreck hurts Stratford woman

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A Stratford woman was badly hurt when the vehicle she was driving went into a couple of cars stopped at a construction site Monday.

Injured in the three-vehicle accident was 61-year-old Linda Brown.

Brown was alone while driving a 1987 Mazda that state troopers reported failed to stop at a site in neighboring Carter County.

For now authorities are not officially sure what caused Brown’s actions.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Stratford woman was traveling on state Highway 7 when at a listed time of 8:43 a.m. Monday it struck the back of a truck.

Both the 2009 Ford F150 pickup, driven by David M. McMahan, 36, of Ardmore and a larger semi-truck, driven by Donald E. Simmons, 39, of Duncan were stopped at a road construction zone on the same state highway.

Troopers reported Brown’s car failed to stop as it struck the truck driven by McMahan at a site about 2.3 miles east of Tatums in northern Carter County.

That resulted in the pickup striking the back of the larger stopped truck.

Both McMahan and Simmons were unhurt in the accident.

However, Brown was initially taken by a Murray County E.M.S. ambulance to Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur.

She was later airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

She was admitted in serious condition with trunk internal injuries, according to an OHP report.

The report also showed seatbelts were being used in the first two vehicle but not in the one driven by Brown.

OHP officials indicated the condition of Brown before the accident and the official cause of the collision are both still under investigation.
