Cause of wreck for Lindsay man still unknown

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Authorities are still looking into the official cause of a one-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of a Lindsay man.

State troopers are still investigating the wreck late last week that killed 61-year-old Randal Smith.

The pending investigation is looking at the possible condition of Smith in the moment’s leading up to the accident, along with its cause.

Smith was killed the evening of Friday, June 6.

The Lindsay man was alone while driving a 1995 Chevy pickup eastbound on a county road several miles southwest of Lindsay.

The site of the accident was actually in neighboring Grady County.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows Smith’s truck went off the roadway to the left at a listed time of 6:34 p.m.

According to the report, the vehicle struck a water transfer pump as Smith was ejected about 65 feet from the truck.

Troopers reported he was not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Smith was pronounced dead the scene and later taken to a funeral home in Maysville.

For now the official cause of the accident is “unknown,” while the condition of the driver still has a pending investigation.

Investigating the crash was OHP Trooper Steven Mitchell of the Grady County Detachment.

Assisting at the scene were another Grady County trooper, Rusty Russell, and officials from the Rush Springs fire department and E.M.S.
