‘Olympus has Fallen’ a perfect fix for action addiction

Movie Review

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Gone may be the era when moviegoers could freely revel in an overtly cheesy patriotic action fest without being accused of having a political agenda. However, even in today’s constant barrage of opinion as fact, there are flicks that just defy the internet bungholes in favor of goofball fun.

Such appears to be the case with today’s homage to kicking butt, with a plot so full of salute to the flag that one can’t help but be sucked into appreciating the adrenaline of the moment. As was described to me by a fellow film buff, there’s no getting up or losing focus as it never slows down after launching out of the starting gate and so beautifully delivers the final KO that one feels compelled to applaud at the final credits. “Olympus has Fallen” is an upfront dismissal of reality in tragedy and gets back to the basics of making a trip to the cinema enjoyable with something to root for.

The story focuses primarily on the secret service protection of US President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) as well as family like son Connor Asher (Finley Jacobsen). Unfortunately an automobile accident doesn’t end well first lady Margaret Asher (Ashley Judd) early in the film and ends up in the departure of the most respected protector, Mike Banning (Gerard Butler).

Cue nearly two years later when what is supposed to be a routine diplomatic visit by South Korean prime minister Lee Tae-Woo (Keong Sim) ends in a blood spilling siege of the White House. Despite all efforts to stop it, it does fall to a terrorist North Korean group led by  Kang Yeonsak (Rick Yune), who seems to be unstoppable in villainy you can’t help but hope is revenged quickly. That revenge happens to be Banning, who must use ridiculously cool moves not used so well since Ahnuld had his heyday in the 80s/90s to stop the madman’s plan of cruel destruction.
