Tulsa World names PV as one of the state’s Top 10 places to visit

Pauls Valley earned a nod from one of the state’s largest newspapers Thursday as the Tulsa World named PV as one of the top 10 places in Oklahoma to visit.

The article, written by the World’s science writer, Matt Gleason, listed 10 cities or towns in Oklahoma that offer out of the ordinary attractions for tourists.

“There are places in this state where small towns are just open space in between city limit signs rusted at the edges,” Gleason wrote.

“But there's a drawling whisper coming from some of those tiny, hidden places. And most of the time it's worth pulling off the highway just to listen for a while and maybe collect memories like so many shiny pebbles from a cold stream.”

Gleason noted there’s a reason why some Oklahoma towns are “famous beyond simply birthing actors, singers, politicians, astronauts and football players.”

To get the top 10 list, Gleason turned to Chamber of Commerce members across the state, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department and fellow World reporter, P.J. Lassek, who recently authored a book on small towns in Oklahoma with unusual attractions or events titled “Oklahoma Curiosities.”

“There are four things every boy loves: mommas, toy cars, slimy worms and chocolate. Pauls Valley's got them all,” Gleason said of Pauls Valley.

Gleason noted the two attractions that make Pauls Valley a destination point are the Toy and Action Figure Museum and Bedre Chocolates.

Noting the locations of both establishments, Gleason added, “The factory also can be found by sticking your nose in the air and walking towards that heavenly aroma.”
