Leah Angela Cox
Leah Angela Cox passed away in her home in San Bernardino, California on Friday, May 16, 2008 at the age of 50 years. She was born on September 12, 1957 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Leah was the daughter of the late John M. Cox, who passed away in January 2002, and Dorothy Schafer Cox, formerly of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Leah started Kindergarten in Golden, Colorado, 1st and 2nd grade in Ft. Collins, Colorado, 3rd and 4th grade in Las Cruces, New Mexico, 5th through 10th in Houston (Westbury), Texas.
Leah was a member of the First Baptist Church at Westbury and was baptized there at age 12.
The family moved back to Pauls Valley and she graduated at Pauls Valley High School in 1976. She then went on to college at Oklahoma State University and obtained her BS in Fashion and Merchandising in 1980.
Leah moved to California with her mother and father and finished her teaching degree at California State University in San Bernardino and began teaching there in 1986.
She was a teacher of the Alternative Education in San Bernardino County school system since 1990, and for the last 3 years had been working in the Juvenile Court Schools as a teacher in Rancho Cucamonga.
Leah held many school offices at County as a union representative in San Bernardino. She belonged to Kappa Kappa Iota, national teachers sorority and held offices, especially as treasurer of the Epsilon Chapter in Fontana, California and state offices in Na State, California.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Schafer Cox of Fontana, California; three brothers: John Michael Cox and his wife Renee’ of Daphne, Alabama, Justin William Cox of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and Scott Alan Cox of Pryor, Oklahoma.
She was survived by a niece: Jessica Nicole Cox and her fiancée Michael C. Stokes and their daughter a great-niece, Jaylye Stokes all of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, also a niece, Brianna M. Cox and two nephews, Quade A. Cox and Hunter A. Cox all from Pryor, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, John M. Cox, and her grandparents Mary and Leo Schafer, and Jack and Nell Cox.
A memorial service followed by visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
Interment will be a private service at a later time at the Cox Family Cemetery near Pauls Valley.
