Raymond Nalley

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Raymond Nalley, 87, was born on August 19, 1925 in Hilltop, near Wewoka, Oklahoma. He passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in his home in Pauls Valley.

Raymond had a variety of jobs at an early age when jobs were scarce. He learned to be a car mechanic at an early age, worked as a seasonal worker harvesting grapes, peaches and apricots in CA.

He helped build the forms for ammunition storage igloos at the West Gate Naval Ammunition Depot in McAllister, Okla., and he later worked in grounds and administration maintenance for the ammunition depot.

Raymond and his wife, Leona, were long-time Pauls Valley residents moving to Pauls Valley in 1955.

In the early 1950s he became one of the first certified Maytag technicians in the state of Oklahoma.

He was one of the few to complete the testing on all types of machines from wringer washer to electric and rebuilding transmissions. This led to a long time association of building, owning, operating and maintaining Maytag Laundromats in the Pauls Valley area.

In addition to being a Maytag repairman, Raymond also was an insurance agent for Lincoln Income Life Insurance Company. Prior to retiring, Raymond worked at Pauls Valley General Hospital in housekeeping and security.

Raymond will be remembered as a loving Papaw to his family with exceptional gardening skills and talents in the kitchen. Raymond was “Mr. Fix-It” with the ability to fix anything, at any time, with limited tools and no instructions.

An honest man of faith and a strong work ethic, Raymond set an example of caring for those who cannot care for themselves. These character traits were obvious in his love for animals.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Leona Mae Rush; his mother and stepfather, Grace and Alvin Gardner; his step-sister, WynemaWilliamson; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim Dore of Highlands Ranch, CO; granddaughter Amy Dore of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Greg and Annie Dore, and his dearly loved great-grandson CoenDore, all of Oak Creek, CO. He also leaves behind his special furry son and constant companion, Jasper, who was always by his side.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Pastor Stephen Reid. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the family’s guestbook at www.stufflebeanfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Raymond’s name to a charity of your choice or to the following charities, which reflect his love and concern for children and animals in need - PAWS at 300 East Airport Industrial Road, Pauls Valley, OK 73075 or, Hole in the Wall Gang at http://www.holeinthewallgang.org.
