Kelvin Dusty Mahorney

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Kelvin Dusty Mahorney, 57, was born May 2, 1955 and departed this life on January 3, 2013.

He will be remembered most by how big his heart was for people and his faith in God.

Growing up in a radio family it was almost second nature he would influence the radio world. As a young boy with his brother’s, helping his dad in the television repair shop; to starting his own repair shop in Lindsay, Okla. Radios have always been in his blood.

It all would lead to Dusty starting DDB Unlimited as a small company in 1996 and grow it into one of the most successful companies in the business.

It was not always easy for Dusty. Getting lost into drugs and alcohol for a time, along wtih the struggles of building a company would only bring him closer to God and his true heart’s desire to help people. That is how it is today; everyone has a story to tell about how Dusty helped them out in some way.

As the years went by and as the business became bigger, Dusty never forgot where he came from. He knew it was hard work and the hand of God that had brought him to where he was. Dusty knew of only one way to do things and that was to give back. God had given him so much with a second chance, Dusty wanted to help others.

Starting in 2007, Dusty paired up with the Serenity Outreach Recovery Community, a recovery center in Oklahoma City, where hope was given to those lost in active addictions and living without hope.

This started out as a small project and now has grown to include several large facilities helping men and women who want to clean up and start over.

Dusty went on to team up with missionaries in Sierra Leone, helping with the missionary work of spreading the Gospel while educating and feeding the hungry mouths and souls.

Also with his own company, Dusty gave jobs to those who no one would hire. Reaching out the helping hand and giving a second chance to so many. In the process of helping so many turn their lives around.

He planned for the future and lived in the moment. Making sure DDB and the various efforts would out live him. He had a vision of a true leader, not afraid to step out and do what needed to be done, not afraid to make the hard choices and never afraid to lend a helping hand. This will continue on through the lives he has touched.

We measure his impact in tens of thousands of people over his short life.

It is with great sadness we see him go as he gave so much to help everyone around him. But we rejoice also knowing he is in the Father’s hands now.

He is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Ray Mahorney and father Kenneth Andrew Mahorney.

He is survived by his wife Becky Mahorney of Wynnewood, Okla.; mother Betty Mahorney of Wynnewood, Okla.; brothers Keith Mahorney and spouse Shirley Mahorney of Tenn., and Dallas Howard and spouse Kimberly of Yukon, Okla.; cousin Howard Kirtley and spouse Rachel of Wynnewood, Okla.; children Brandy Dover and spouse Jimmy Dover, Sherri O’Dell and spouse Frank O’Dell of Wynnewood, Okla., Dustin Mahorney and spouse Stephanie Mahorney of Wynnewood, Okla., and Lester Mahorney and Melody Mahorney of Wynnewood, Okla.; stepchildren Waylon Whitlow of Oklahoma City, Levi Eden of Wynnewood, Okla., and Paige Whitlow, also of Wynnewood, Okla.; and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Higher Ground Church with Pastor Don Shackelford officiating. Interment was in the Foster Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
