Lynn Wayne Moxley

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Lynn Wayne Moxley, 68, died on the evening of May 20, 2014 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He died after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Lynn was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on June 6, 1945. He was married June 12, 1964 to Mary (Rollow) Nelms, the mother of his children. He served in the Army Reserves 1965-1971, and also served as a volunteer Firefighter in Wynnewood 1968-1988.

He met the love of his life, Priscilla, in 1994 and they married on November 6, 2006 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

He was a car salesman at Reynolds Ford in Norman for the past for 25 years. On the morning of his death, he was surprised with his 25 year ring and a beautiful anniversary party by his co-workers and friends. Prior to that, he worked at the Kerr McGee refinery in Wynnewood for 16 years, and then in the family business, Moxley Steel, for 8 years.

Lynn was loved by all who knew him. He was such a giving person, and would literally give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed his help. He was a very kind and genuine person, who would always tell you the truth. He was strong and a protector of his family, with constant reminders about possible storms in your area, wearing your seat-belts, and driving safely.

You rarely saw Lynn when he didn’t have a beautiful smile on his face with arms wide open for a hug. He was the kind of husband, dad and papa every person would love to have. He was there at every possible ball game, play, dance recital, birthday party, dinner, and any other family event, sharing his smiles, love, and a few gold dollars. He never missed a phone call to sing you the full “Happy Birthday” song on your special day, and belt out a huge “Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas” every Christmas.

He loved four-wheeling, trout fishing at Red River, NM and Blue River, cars and car shows, shopping for the perfect gift and the perfect clothes, OU Football, watching Westerns, the American Flag, good food, his Wynnewood roots and friends, selling cars, meeting and visiting with people, and sharing stories

He was also known and loved for his orneriness and sense of humor. Even days before his death, he was still scobbing nogs and surprising you with a “getcha snort” followed by a huge smile of pride in himself that he could still make you jump. He was known for his little practical jokes, but was the recipient of quite a few as well.

His lasting legacy will be unconditional love for friends and family and inspiration of how to live life, be a friend, and spread joy to everyone you meet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd “Dutch” and Leah Moxley.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Ann Moxley; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Lynn Moxley and Laura of Norman; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Moxley Nation and Scott of Pauls Valley; his brother, Lloyd “Butch” Moxley and his wife Carolyn of Ponca City; the mother of his children, Mary (Rollow) Nelms of Pauls Valley; his grandchildren: Morgen Williams and her husband Gareth of Norman, Christopher Jorden Moxley of Norman; Hunter Nation, Austin Nation, Gavin Lynn Nation, and Leah Nation of Pauls Valley; and his step-sons, Ronnie Robbins of Norman and Chad Robbins of Washington, D.C.; nephews Jeff Moxley, Tim Moxley, and niece Angela Spicer.

Services were held Friday afternoon in Pauls Valley, with interment at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood.

The Moxley family would like to thank the Wynnewood Fire Department for their touching and amazing tribute to one of their own, and also the Pauls Valley Fire Department, Wynnewood Police Department, Pauls Valley Police Department, and the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office for everything they did to help honor Lynn.
